Memphis Mafia Princess Living in the Elvis World eBook Shirley Dieu

Seems like this book would be a whole lot shorter if she didn't detail so much about the leaves and the grass in the mountains . It all seemed rather superficial and too sweet . Didn't want a lot of dirt on him . Just a more intimate look at how she spent her time around him . I have to say I was disappointed

Memphis Mafia Princess Living in the Elvis World eBook Shirley Dieu Reviews

I really enjoyed this book. If you are an Elvis fan, you will enjoy it too! She has lots of memories of her time with Elvis and I also enjoyed reading about the relationship that she and Joe shared. I just wish the book had pictures. There are no pictures in the book.
Thank you Shirley for telling it like it was. I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to every Elvis fan. You cleared up two very important things that always bothered me. One, Red West's book (which I also read) and the reason he and Sonny were fired. As you said, he gave a different version. Second, Ginger. I read her book too and felt it read like a fairy tale. Nothing rang true for me and now I know why after reading your book. You had nothing to gain or lose by writing this book. You just wanted to give us fans the truth. I applaud you. Also, thank your for the personalized note. You are one classy lady.
I loved this book I would recommend it to everyone
My title and the fact that after 37 years she released her book within weeks of Ginger Alden's not withstanding, Shirley has a story and it's mostly compelling. Thanks to Joe's physical attraction, she was a regular privileged insider and witnessed a lot in the "Elvis World" during '74-77. Her writing style is warm, often vivid and you can get a feel for Shirley's personality in the book. Many of the stories shed new light and perspective on that time frame and she has clear lifetime loyalty for Elvis and Joe. What becomes increasingly curious and unconvincing are her repeated slaps at Ginger Alden. Either she was seethingly jealous of Ginger, baselessly holds Ginger at least partially responsible for Elvis' death and/or is well aware that the only real remaining butter to be had in the "Elvis World" comes from Priscilla who has most likely long regarded Ginger as unnecessary baggage. According to Shirley, Ginger was too dumb and naive for anyone to understand how she could be Elvis' girlfriend/fiance, yet calculating enough to conspire with her mother to con him out of many thousands in gifts. Ginger "never fit into the group", her reaction to receiving a car from Elvis "brought Elvis down." Never a kind word from Shirley other than she was "really quite pretty;" this immediately tempered by, "but like all the rest." After Elvis died, Shirley claims (defames?) Ginger left w/ significant jewelry in addition to what Elvis had given her-guilty of felony theft then Shirley? Why wasn't she accused by anyone else or charged criminally? Shirley claims to have not seen Ginger at the house during the viewing, again for Shirley this means she obviously "never really cared for Elvis." Shirley's case against the Aldens reaches final summation with a generous reference to the lawsuit Ginger's mother brought against Elvis' estate. Shirley conveniently and predictably sets aside the obvious; if Elvis promised to pay off her mother's home, something Shirley wouldn't possibly know, the family legally had the right to pursue the case. Regardless of how crass it might sometimes appear, estates are sued on these grounds regularly. It should be noted that Shirley seems particularly proud to have been able to assist Priscilla in the estate's defense of the matter. What she could have added to the inquiry is hard to fathom. Needless to say, Ginger's book disputes, explains or creates significant additional perspective on all of these points; out of integrity, if not courtesy, Shirley should have at least read it before committing herself to an Alden blood bath. The gratuitous slamming of Ginger is matched or exceeded only by the fawning tributes offered to Priscilla; specifically, repeated references to her "business acumen" and "Elvis' undying love for her." All of the anti-Alden pile on detracts from an otherwise pretty solid, seemingly credible read from an otherwise relatively sympathetic author.

I bought this book because I heard she had some great pictures. This paperback book came without pictures.
This book is easy to read but it's a blatant attempt at squeezing another dollar out of Elvis' name. There is nothing in it that hasn't been written before by authors whom she ridicules because they didn't know him personally according to her.
No. Waste of read time. Self published I should have known
